Job Description

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Electrical Engineer to develop designs of electrical substations supporting the safe and reliable delivery of electricity across the US and Canada. This role involves working with a multi-discipline team on various facets of substation design and project management, with opportunities for leadership and client interaction.

Responsibilities
  • Design of electrical substations, including yard layout, grounding, lightning protection, and control building arrangements.
  • Protection and control system design, including panel arrangements, schematics, and wiring.
  • Review and oversee quality of substation design work.
  • Prepare equipment specifications and perform field inspections.
  • Lead project teams to ensure success.
  • Present designs to clients and authorities, and coordinate with vendors and contractors.
  • Participate in project proposals and develop into leadership roles.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Preferred: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam completion.
  • Minimum 3 years of substation electrical engineering experience, consulting preferred. Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE/ANSI Standards.
  • Strong communication and computer skills (e.g., Mathcad, WinIGS, Microsoft Office).
Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $105,000 - $170,000/year, based on experience and qualifications. Includes participation in bonus programs.
