Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of professional electrical engineering experience.
• Advanced PCBA design experience: schematic, component selection, layout review, bring-up, debugging.
• Proficiency with Altium; experience with rigid, flex, or rigid-flex boards.
• Experience integrating electrical hardware with embedded software and mechanical systems.
• Knowledge of EMC/EMI design, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Experience in design for manufacturability and complex electromechanical systems.
• Experience in robotics, medical devices, or related industries.

Our client, a leading medical device company, is seeking a Staff Electrical Engineer to support the development of electrical subsystems for a next-generation surgical robotic platform. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on PCBA design, electrical system integration, testing, and troubleshooting. The engineer will work cross-functional with Software, Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Regulatory teams to develop reliable electrical solutions from initial concept through commercialization.

Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and development of a major subsystem within a surgical robotic platform
• Translate product and system requirements into electrical requirements, interfaces, and designs
• Design complex PCBA, including schematic development, component selection, and rigid, flex, and rigid-flex board designs
• Perform PCB layout reviews, board bring-up, characterization, testing, and debugging using Altium
• Integrate electrical hardware with embedded software, mechanical components, and broader robotic systems
• Make technical trade-off decisions related to performance, safety, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and risk
• Develop electrical verification and EMC test strategies and support testing at external laboratories and other company facilities
• Troubleshoot complex electrical and multidisciplinary system issues
• Support design documentation, risk management, design transfer, and product commercialization activities
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout product development and commercialization

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required
• 5+ years of professional electrical engineering experience required
• Advanced experience with PCBA design, including schematic design, component selection, layout review, board bring-up, and debugging
• Proficiency with Altium and experience designing rigid, flex, or rigid-flex boards
• Experience integrating electrical hardware with embedded software, mechanical systems, and system-level requirements
• Knowledge of EMC/EMI design, testing, and troubleshooting
• Experience with design for manufacturability and complex electromechanical systems
• Experience developing technically sophisticated products, ideally in robotics, medical devices, or similar industries
• Experience taking products from requirements and concept development through verification, design transfer, and commercialization
• Medical device experience, including design controls, risk management, IEC 60601, or Design History File documentation, is preferred
• Strong communication, technical decision-making, and complex problem-solving skills
