Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.
  • EIT license required or pursuing licensure.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience in power/ nuclear sectors preferred.
  • Familiarity with NQA-1, IEEE and NEI standards.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance for unescorted access to a nuclear station.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in ETAP or SKM; AutoCAD/SolidWorks/ANSYS advantageous.
  • AI/ML-assisted engineering analysis experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze electrical components and systems for nuclear plants or advanced reactors.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Review engineering modification packages and provide guidance to junior staff.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and support root cause analyses.
  • Interface with civil, mechanical, and I&C engineers; participate in design reviews.

About the role

The Staff Electrical Engineer will be a technical lead responsible for designing, analyzing, and maintaining complex electrical systems and components for nuclear power plants (operating or a new build) or advanced reactor projects. They will work with a multi-discipline team of engineers in the design, analysis, and evaluation of systems and components using engineering software, including support to lead engineers. They apply advanced engineering principles and engineering codes & standards, such as IEEE, to develop solutions that meet strict safety, regulatory, and quality standards. They will resolve technical issues for operating nuclear power plants, new plants, and other nuclear and non-nuclear projects. This role supports Corporate initiatives as well as ongoing construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Design and analysis of electrical components and systems.
  • Prepare engineering calculations (e.g., short circuit, arc flash, relay settings), drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare or review engineering modification packages
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineering staff
  • Diagnose electrical equipment failures, support root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions.
  • Review vendor documentation and technical specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical meetings.
  • Interface with engineers in other disciplines such as civil/structural, mechanical, and instrumentation and controls (I&C).
  • Support the implementation of quality assurance and quality control programs.
  • Prepare technical reports and documentation.
  • Recommend equipment, develop new concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify construction, reduce costs, correct design or material flaws, or comply with changes in codes or regulations.
Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET Accredited University.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) license.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience
  • Power industry (e.g., nuclear power plant or nuclear construction) experience is a plus
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in ETAP or SKM software for electrical modeling, along with proficiency in engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, ANSYS).
  • Familiarity with NQA-1, IEEE and NEI standards
  • Must be capable of obtaining security clearance for unescorted access to a nuclear station
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Experience
  • Professional Engineer license is a plus.
  • Power industry (e.g., nuclear power plant or nuclear construction) experience is a plus
  • Previous causal analysis experience is a plus
  • Previous qualified standard design experience is a plus
  • AI/ML-Assisted Engineering Analysis: Experience leveraging AI/ML tools to accelerate engineering calculations (e.g., short circuit, arc flash, load flow) or to identify patterns in equipment performance data for predictive maintenance and failure analysis
  • Automated Document Review & Quality Assurance: Experience using AI-powered tools for automated review of vendor documentation, technical specifications, or engineering modification packages to improve quality, consistency, and turnaround time.
