Job description

Staff Electrical Engineer | Spacecraft Avionics & Command and Data Handling (CDH)

Employment Type: Full-time

US Citizens or Green Card Holders only

The Opportunity

EVONA is partnering with a fast-growing space technology company developing next-generation spacecraft and satellite communications systems.

We're looking for an experienced Staff Electrical Engineer to take technical ownership of a spacecraft Command and Data Handling (CDH) subsystem, overseeing the selection, integration, qualification and delivery of critical flight electronics.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in bringing advanced satellite technology from architecture and requirements through to flight-ready hardware.

Unlike a traditional board-level design position, this role focuses on owning and delivering a complete electronic subsystem, comprising multiple avionics units including flight computers, onboard Ethernet switches and other spacecraft electronics.

You'll work closely with electrical architects, hardware engineers, software teams, mechanical engineers and external suppliers to ensure the subsystem meets mission requirements.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Own the technical delivery of the spacecraft Command and Data Handling subsystem, from requirements through qualification and delivery.
  • Work with electrical architects to define subsystem architecture, interfaces and hardware requirements.
  • Lead make-versus-buy assessments and technical trade studies for spacecraft avionics hardware.
  • Evaluate and select COTS electronic units, including flight computers, Ethernet switches and related onboard equipment.
  • Manage technical relationships with hardware suppliers, supporting procurement, development, testing and delivery.
  • Coordinate the integration of multiple electronic units into a fully functioning spacecraft subsystem.
  • Work across electrical, mechanical, software and systems engineering teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Oversee hardware verification, environmental qualification, integration and acceptance testing.
  • Support engineering reviews, risk management and technical decision-making throughout the spacecraft development lifecycle.
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Approximately 8+ years of relevant experience in spacecraft, satellite, aerospace or high-reliability electronics engineering.
  • Strong understanding of digital electronics, spacecraft avionics and embedded computing hardware.
  • Experience owning electronic hardware or subsystems through development, integration, testing and delivery.
  • Familiarity with flight computers, onboard processors, data-handling electronics or spacecraft communication networks.
  • Experience evaluating hardware options, performing technical trade studies and working with external suppliers.
  • Understanding of spacecraft hardware qualification, reliability and environmental testing.
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Particularly Relevant Experience

We'd be especially interested in engineers who have worked with:

  • Spacecraft Command and Data Handling (CDH/C&DH) subsystems
  • Flight computers, onboard computers (OBCs) or digital avionics
  • Spacecraft Ethernet switches and onboard data networks
  • COTS flight hardware selection and supplier management
  • Spacecraft electronics integration and qualification
  • Satellite bus electrical architecture and subsystem delivery
Why Consider This Opportunity?

You'll join a growing spacecraft engineering organisation working on ambitious satellite programmes, with the opportunity to take meaningful technical ownership of flight-critical hardware.

The position offers:
  • Ownership of a complete spacecraft electronics subsystem
  • Exposure to advanced satellite platforms and communications technologies
  • Close collaboration with experienced multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • The opportunity to contribute directly to spacecraft hardware delivery
