About the opportunity:

Do you thrive in delivering the very best in environmental consulting services? Headway Environmental is expanding its Ecological Restoration Engineering team and seeks a dynamic individual eager to make a difference.

We are looking for a skilled Engineer with experience in stream restoration design, surface water hydrologic and open-channel hydraulic analysis, and modeling. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and/or SWMM is required, along with a working knowledge of GIS principles.

You will receive mentorship from nationally-recognized stream and ecological restoration engineers. Work location is remote, preferably near Little Rock, AR, Annapolis, MD, Houston, TX, or Ft. Collins, CO.

What you will accomplish:

  • Design of ecosystem restoration and enhancement projects, including: natural channel design/stream restoration, wetland restoration, green infrastructure, stormwater management, and flood control channels
  • Development of construction plans under the guidance of project managers and lead engineers
  • Mentoring CADD technicians in natural channel design within AutoDesk Civil 3D
  • Conducting water resource assessments and analyses, including watershed hydrology, hydraulics, river modeling, and stormwater management
  • Using software such as AutoCad Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, Microsoft Word, and Excel proficiently
  • Managing project schedules and budgets, reporting to the lead engineer

Experience and qualifications for success:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master’s preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in stream restoration design and CADD development
  • Coursework in hydrology and hydraulics
  • Training in fluvial geomorphology, stream restoration, or sediment transport preferred
  • Experience with AutoCad Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and Microsoft Office required
  • Experience developing stream restoration plans in Civil 3D required
  • Willingness to learn GIS if not already proficient
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
