Job summary

Orbis is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Distributed Systems to define architecture across Catalyst's messaging, state, and reconciliation layers. You will shape platform direction, own critical infrastructure, and drive scalable, secure data flows for a high-assurance mission environment.

The role requires 7+ years in distributed systems, deep Go expertise, and experience with streaming systems. Travel up to 25% for Middle East engagements is expected.

Qualifications

• 7+ years building distributed systems in production.
• Deep hands-on experience with Go in high-throughput, concurrent systems.
• Experience with message queues and streaming systems (e.g., NATS/JetStream, Kafka).
• Design of state machines and idempotent operations for deterministic recovery.
• Experience with gRPC/protobuf-based service boundaries.
• Familiar with failure semantics of distributed systems and recovery strategies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven track record of setting technical direction for teams.
• Willing to travel up to 25% for Middle East engagements.

Responsibilities

• Define, maintain, and expand Go/Python frameworks for data movement plugins.
• Scale data movement across disparate data sources and patterns.
• Manage lifecycle of critical components with automated tooling and upgrades.
• Design high-performance, low-latency architectures for specialized workloads.
• Define architecture across Catalyst subsystems and evolve it as the platform scales.
• Lead incident response, postmortems, and reliability targets.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and IaC automation for provisioning and enrollment.
