Job summary

Orbis seeks a Staff Software Engineer, Distributed Systems to shape architecture across Catalyst, our secure distributed data platform. You will lead design across messaging, state, and reconciliation layers and drive technical direction for critical infrastructure.

Role requires deep Go expertise, experience with data streaming and multiple queues, and a proven track record building scalable, reliable systems. International travel up to 25% is required.

Qualifications

• 7+ years building distributed systems in production.
• Go in high-throughput, concurrent systems with goroutines and graceful shutdowns.
• Experience with message queues and streaming (Kafka, NATS).
• Designing state machines and idempotent operations for deterministic recovery.
• gRPC/protobuf-based service boundaries and cross-system transfer protocols.
• Failure semantics of distributed systems: supervised restarts and deterministic reconciliation.
• Excellent communication with customers, product leaders, and engineering teams.
• Travel up to 25% for engagement and reviews (Middle East).

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain Go frameworks and libraries for data movement plugins.
• Expand data-movement patterns across sources and systems.
• Manage critical components with automated tooling to identify vulnerabilities and upgrades.
• Design high-performance, low-latency architectures for specialized workloads.
• Define architecture across multiple subsystems and evolve with scale.
• Act as domain expert across data lifecycle areas like streaming or state management.
• Monitor reliability targets and lead incident response and postmortems.
• Participate in on-call and incident response for the data platform.
