Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified trainer to prepare, host, and deliver curriculum focused on safety for new and tenured staff within the Division of Probation and Parole. The role includes proficiency in defensive tactics and firearms, and requires collaboration within a small training team and regular overnight travel.

Applicants should have extensive experience in corrections training, strong instructional skills, and the ability to write and develop training

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in adult corrections, adult probation and parole, or civil/military police law enforcement, with 100+ hours serving as primary instructor in employee training and development.
  • Or five or more years of professional level experience.
  • Earned credit hours from an accredited college/university may substitute for up to four years of the required experience, at 30 credit hours per one year; a minimum of one year of experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in researching, developing, and delivering training programs for employees and clients of state agencies.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of training materials and curriculums.
  • Produce and evaluate audio-visual aids and computer-based tools for training.
  • Participate in evaluating training effectiveness and recommend revisions.
  • Provide technical advice on planning, scheduling, and delivery of training programs.
  • Prepare progress reports on training phases.

This position will primarily be responsible for preparing, hosting, and delivering curriculum specific to safety considerations for new and tenured staff with the Division of Probation and Parole. This includes, but is not limited to, proficiency in defensive tactics and use of firearms. Must possess ability to work as a member of a small training team. This position requires regular overnight travel for multiple nights.

  • Assists in the research, development, and delivery of training programs for employees and/or clients of one or more state agencies
  • Assists in the research, development, and implementation of training materials; assists in the writing and development of training curriculums
  • Assists in the production, development, evaluation, or acquisition of audio-visual aids and computer-based software for use in training programs
  • Participates in the overall evaluation of training effectiveness, and recommends and/or implements revisions to specific training programs
  • Assists agency leaders and work teams in determining present and/or future organizational and individual development needs
  • Provides technical advice to agency personnel regarding the planning, scheduling, and delivery of training programs
  • Prepares reports, as required, on the progress of assigned phases of training
  • Initially, work is reviewed closely by an administrative supervisor; as more experience is gained, receives general supervision
  • Performs other related work as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

Five or more years of experience in the field of adult corrections, adult probation and parole, or civil or military police law enforcement, with 100 or more hours serving as primary instructor in employee training and development

Five or more years of professional level experience.

(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to four years of the required experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year - a minimum of one year of experience is required)

All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.

  • A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
  • A $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 maximum security differential if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
  • A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
