Job summary

Pleasantville Public Schools seeks a Staff Development Teacher to build staff capacity and advance district-wide initiatives. You will collaborate with the building principal and Director of Curriculum and Instruction to implement job-embedded professional learning and provide coaching across classrooms.

The role requires NJ teaching cert, a Bachelor's degree, and 3–5 years of teaching experience with strong facilitation and leadership skills. Travel within Pleasantville may be needed.

Qualifications

  • Must hold NJ instructional certificate (Standard/CE/CE with Advanced Standing).
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field; Master's preferred.
  • 3–5 years of successful teaching experience; local district experience desirable.
  • Experience training adults in workshops, seminars, or PLCs.
  • Evidence of instructional leadership and data-informed coaching.
  • Knowledge of NJSLS and NJ teacher standards; ability to coach toward them.

TITLE: STAFF DEVELOPMENT TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Hold a valid New Jersey instructional certificate (Standard, Certificate of Eligibility, or Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing) in an appropriate teaching or instructional field, issued by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE).
  2. Bachelor's degree in Education, a specific content area, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field required; Master's degree or National Board Certification preferred.
  3. Three to five years of successful teaching experience; experience within Pleasantville Public Schools is desirable.
  4. Meets or exceeds a standard/proficient rating on the most recent New Jersey educator evaluation (AchieveNJ).
  5. Demonstrated experience presenting and modeling exemplary teaching practices to adult learners in settings such as workshops, seminars, professional learning communities, or college courses.
  6. Evidence of instructional leadership (e.g., team leader, resource teacher, department chair, systemwide committee work).
  7. Experience with instructional coaching, mentoring, and/or facilitation preferred.
  8. Knowledge of best practices in adult learning theory, instructional coaching, and effective teaching methods, with demonstrated ability to model them for adult learners.
  9. Working knowledge of the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) and the New Jersey Professional Standards for Teachers, with the ability to coach and mentor teachers toward those standards.
  10. Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze student performance and educator practice data from multiple sources, then formulate coaching and instructional strategies to meet identified needs.
  11. Skill in group facilitation, including frameworks such as Facilitative Leadership (Interaction Associates) to build consensus, manage group process, and move teams from open to narrow to close decision-making.
  12. Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  13. Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications.
  14. Provide proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form 1-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
  15. Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education, or, during the initial six-month period, provide a sworn statement that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person's offense in accordance with 18A:6-7. l.
  16. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3- 4A.4.
  17. Pass the State required Mantoux intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.

JOB GOAL:

Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and in collaboration with the building principal, the Staff Development Teacher (SDT) builds staff capacity to advance district-wide and school-based initiatives that increase student learning, motivation, and well-being. The school-based SDT aligns work with the School Improvement Plan and the district's Strategic Plan, fostering both individual staff growth and the collective efficacy of teams through job-embedded professional learning and implementation support.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. a change agent, leading staff to examine and address inequities by assessing the effectiveness of instructional practices and motivating staff to implement necessary systemic changes;
  2. a coach, helping staff (teachers, specialists, support staff, and other building leaders) transfer learning experiences into practice;
  3. a consultant, supporting individuals or groups in determining the best course of action to carry out specific tasks or meet particular objectives;
  4. a program manager, creating and facilitating implementation of a school-level professional learning plan aligned to district priorities;
  5. a resource provider, connecting school staff to the tools and materials needed to reach desired goals; and
  6. a learning facilitator, helping school staff acquire new skills and knowledge through custom-designed training and job-embedded professional development.
SDT responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Engaging staff in developing a culture of professional learning that recognizes all staff as learners capable of acquiring a repertoire of skills to meet the needs of every student.
  2. Helping professional staff understand the impact of their choices regarding curriculum, motivation, instructional strategies, and classroom management on student outcomes.
  3. Serving as program manager for the development and implementation of a comprehensive, job-embedded professional learning plan for the building.
  4. Creating opportunities for macro-level professional learning (analyzing evidence of student learning, data analysis, and acquisition of instructional best practices) and aligned micro-level, job-embedded implementation of new learning (peer visits with follow-up reflection, learning walks, collaborative team planning, and individual professional growth and reflective practice).
  5. Creating processes to ensure the transfer of adult learning into classroom practice and its impact on student learning and well-being.
  6. Demonstrating high expectations for both students and adults, and modeling effective strategies for continuous school improvement using cycles such as Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA).
  7. Communicating and supporting implementation of district-wide initiatives originating from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
  8. Supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan based on district priorities, the school's vision, mission, and goals, instructional best practices, and expectations for safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environments consistent with the New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum (NJQSAC).
  9. Assisting individual staff members in self-monitoring their professional growth within the district's AchieveNJ-aligned professional growth process, using data to provide differentiated, non-evaluative feedback for staff at different career stages, including novice and underperforming staff who require additional job-embedded support.
  10. Supporting the onboarding of all new staff.
  11. Performing related work as required.
General responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  1. Maintain safe working conditions and safely operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
  2. Protect the confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
  3. Adhere to New Jersey school law, State Board of Education rules and regulations, Board of Education policies and regulations, school regulations and procedures, and contractual obligations.
  4. Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and board policy.
  5. Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certifications, as assigned by the Principal and assigned supervisor, and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

May require attendance at meetings, professional learning sessions, and district events outside the regular instructional day. Travel between Pleasantville Public Schools sites may be required.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

11-month employee, salary and work year as set by the board of education.

ANNUAL EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with NJ State law and the provisions of the board's policy on evaluations.
