Job summary

Datadog is seeking a Staff Developer Advocate to serve as a technical storyteller for our most senior technical executives. You will own programs from concept to execution, partnering with product and engineering leaders to craft credible, compelling narratives.

You will shape advocacy across events, talks, demos, blogs, and open source contributions, guiding customers and engineers through Datadog’s vision and products. Remote-friendly role with competitive equity and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 5+ years of experience as a software developer, SRE, or other practitioner.
  • Approximately 8+ years of experience in a senior technical leadership capacity (e.g., Principal Engineer, VP/Director+, Staff Developer Advocate) responsible for collaborating with peer leaders to set technical direction and influence product direction to serve user needs.
  • Approximately 3+ years of experience in storytelling and creating compelling content such as talks, writing, or demos.

Responsibilities

Job description

Description: Our Staff Developer Advocates are technical leaders and mentors who anchor our team. They own projects from beginning to end, facilitating collaboration and enabling Datadog’s community to solve real-world problems. With a focus on technical executive storytelling, you will work closely with Datadog’s product and engineering leaders and their counterparts at our customers, coaching them to tell compelling stories and creating experiences that build credibility with technical executive audiences. This is a unique opportunity to combine your engineering expertise and creative storytelling skills to shape how technical leaders understand and engage with the evolving technology landscape.

What You’ll Do:
  • Be the key technical storyteller for our most senior technical executive audiences
  • Drive approach and execution of our overall first party technical event content programs, such as DASH and Datadog Summits, to tell authentic, compelling educational and inspirational stories for executive technical audiences
  • Define and drive executive-level advocacy programs for technical audiences, ensuring Datadog remains relevant to senior technical audiences (CTOs, VPs of Engineering, technical architects)
  • Represent Datadog’s point-of-view in the field to technical leaders at events and conferences.
  • Partner with and coach internal product and engineering leaders on effective public communication and presentations for the work they do
  • Represent Datadog leadership’s point-of-view for our solutions, engineering culture and industry trends that our technical users should be thinking about
  • Partner with event organizers to ensure success when involving Datadog and our customers, and the curation of the content most compelling its to attendees
  • Create content in one or more mediums to build Datadog's reputation as a leader in DevOps, Observability and Security e.g. building demos, public speaking, blogging, documentation, webinars, open source, research reports and more
  • Contribute to the product through feedback (bugs or product enhancements suggestions)
Who You Are:
  • Approximately 5+ years of experience as a software developer, SRE, or other practitioner
  • Approximately 8+ years of experience in a senior technical leadership capacity (e.g., Principal Engineer, VP/Director+, Staff Developer Advocate) responsible for collaborating with peer leaders to set technical direction and influence product direction to serve user needs.
  • Approximately 3+ years of experience in storytelling and creating compelling content e.g. written content, conference talks, leading workshops, live streaming or recording videos, contributing to open source, and participating in community events
  • You have publicly available writing samples, blog posts, demos, or recordings of presentations on technical topics
  • You have coached and enabled others to speak publicly and deliver compelling talks about their areas of subject matter expertise in a way that resonates with audiences, especially technical executives
  • Experience either working on technical conferences or events, either as a collaborator with organizers or as an organizer yourself
  • You enjoy self driven exploration and education on new technologies and languages

  • You have experience working with regional teams to localize technical content and stories for your audiences
  • You are multilingual

Datadog offers a competitive salary and equity package, and may include variable compensation. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
