Job description

In the past, to be a successful restaurateur, you simply had to have a passion for food and a passion for people - but to succeed as a digital restaurateur you also need to have a passion for technology. We believe in the joy of serving others, and that's why we created Otter – to help restaurateurs succeed in online food delivery. Restaurants around the world, both large and small, including Chick-fil-A, Ben & Jerry’s, KFC, and Eataly trust our software to power their delivery business. We increase sales, reduce order issues, and decrease delivery headaches.

What you'll do

We're looking for a Staff Designer to take on the biggest, messiest, most ambiguous problems at Otter, the ones that don't have an owner yet because nobody's figured out what the real problem even is. This isn't a role where you're handed a brief. You'll go find the thing worth solving, make the case for why it matters, and lead it from a rough idea to something real, shipped, and unmistakably Otter. You will:

  • Spot the P0 problems other people haven't seen yet, and make the case for why they matter
  • Take a vague, company-level direction and turn it into a concrete plan, then rally the people needed to build it
  • Own initiatives that cut across teams, not confined to one roadmap or one pod
  • Raise the bar on what Otter feels like, pushing every surface toward something more cohesive, more considered, more us
  • Bring energy and craft to work that's often invisible until it's done right, then impossible to imagine any other way
  • Mentor and sharpen the designers around you just by how you work, no direct reports required

What we're looking for

  • A track record of finding the right problem to solve, not just solving the one you were given
  • Experience shipping work that started as pure ambiguity, no clean brief, no clear owner, just a direction
  • A sharp eye for brand and craft, someone who notices when something feels almost right and pushes it the rest of the way
  • Strong storytelling instincts, you can get a room to believe in a direction before it exists
  • Enterprise or B2B experience is a strong plus, and bonus points if you've also touched the consumer side of that same business
  • Demand for online food delivery is growing really fast! In the last 5 years, just in the US, the overall market has expanded 10X from $10B to $100B, and could expand to $500bn- $1T by 2030.
  • Changing the restaurant industry: You’ll be part of a team that helps restaurants succeed in online food delivery.
  • Collaborative environment: You will receive support and guidance from experienced colleagues and managers, helping you to learn, grow and achieve your goals, and you’ll work closely with other teams to ensure our customer's success.

What else you need to know

We’re constantly reimagining our industry, creating new products, and refining our processes, and we do our best work together. That’s why all of our office-based teams work onsite, five days a week.

The base salary range for this role is $182,000 - $230,000 per year.

Actual compensation will be determined on an individual basis and may vary depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package. You may also be eligible for equity awards and an annual performance-based bonus.
