Job summary

Motional is seeking a Staff Design Release Engineer for the Vehicle Platform Engineering group in Pittsburgh. You will own the end-to-end design release, validation, and production readiness of autonomous vehicle compute hardware and connectivity subsystems, coordinating with suppliers and internal teams.

You will drive the program through DV, PV, and PPAP phases, manage documentation and BOMs, and ensure alignment with cost and timing objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Systems Engineering.
• 8+ years in automotive hardware design and release engineering.
• Deep understanding of compute architectures, high-speed data buses, and wireless connectivity standards.
• Knowledge of validation documentation and processes (DVP&R, DFMEA, PFMEA).
• Expertise with manufacturing BOM and ECN processes; able to manage discussions with external suppliers.
• CAD tools familiarity (NX, CATIA) and PLM tooling (Polarion).
• Strong knowledge of vehicle integration, packaging, and ISO 26262.
• Proven ability to lead complex initiatives and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Own the complete design release of high-performance compute and connectivity hardware, including mechanical, thermal, electrical interfaces, and vehicle network integration.
• Drive product lifecycle from concept to sustaining engineering and continuous improvement.
• Oversee generation and release of engineering documents, BOMs, specifications, and test reports.
• Define and maintain DVP&R; ensure validation against system targets.
• Lead ECN processes with cost, version control, and cross-functional buy-in.
• Serve as primary interface to suppliers (Tier 1/2) for part maturity and delivery readiness.
• Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Autonomy, Software, Quality, and Vehicle Integration teams for manufacturability.
• Lead design reviews and risk mitigation to align maturity with milestones and build events.
• Provide regular updates to technical leadership on maturity, validation progress, and issues.
