A DAY IN THE LIFE
This is ideal for an “early-career (0-4-year experience)” professional. This is a great opportunity for an early-career architectural or landscape designer with an interest in participatory design.
As a you will be part of a strong team of committed professionals. This role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
Neighborhood-Scale and Site-Specific Reuse Planning and Design
Implementing the design process to create neighborhood-scale brownfields area-wide plans and site-specific reuse plans through processes through:
1) Desktop analysis of demographic and socio-economic conditions,
2) Review and synopsis of previous planning and design efforts,
3) Site/Neighborhood reconnaissance and analysis,
4) Preparing diagrammatic and narrative inventory and analysis,
5) Developing initial and final reuse programs that respond to available market research, community input, and environmental constraints,
6) Creating initial concepts, sketches, and/or vignettes,
7) Implementing feedback loops through charrettes, workshops, and other participatory design exercises,
8) Demonstrating design alternatives,
9) Inviting and incorporating feedback through iterative methods,
10) Finalizing illustrative conceptual design drawings and illustrations in plan, section, and perspective, and
11) Compiling design content into reports
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to design effective, efficient remedial solutions that comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
Evaluate and advise redevelopment options based on zoning and ordinance restrictions; assist communities with making amendments to local rules and regulations as needed for productive redevelopment (i.e., updating zoning).
Stakeholder and Public Engagement
Promoting engagement opportunities and program efforts through outreach efforts including: web promotion, program marketing, and other methods of outreach.
Facilitating communication and collaboration among stakeholders, including property owners, developers, government agencies, community groups, and the public through in-person and virtual meetings, neighborhood workshops, site tours, community surveys, and focus groups.
Presenting planning and design information and project updates to diverse audiences, ensuring transparency and promoting community involvement in decision-making processes.
Assistance with implementing participatory design processes where stakeholder and community engagement efforts are clearly integrated into design outcomes.
Assistance with coordinating meeting logistics, such as managing meeting invitations, RSVP response tracking, agenda preparation, room setup, etc.
Assistance with note taking and engagement follow up activities
Grant Writing Assistance
Work with the internal Montrose Grant Team to prepare narrative content for grant applications.
Review past grant applications to identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
Other
Keeping up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attending professional workshops.
Practicing safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
Participating in continuous improvement programs and providing support to team efforts.
Performing other duties as assigned.
The employee will be supported in all aspects of their work. It should be noted that, while this is a remote position, daily interaction with colleagues, the public, clients, and/or subcontractors will be normal; adaptability and excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Remote work is not suitable for all personalities, and requires a high degree of organization, self-discipline, and awareness.
The position available is a remote/hybrid opportunity that, while requiring residency in our Northern Appalachia service area (West Virginia, eastern Ohio, or western Pennsylvania), will allow the employee to perform office tasks from a home office - with the support of our office and remote employee network.
The work environment will vary greatly depending on the nature of assigned tasks, this position will occasionally involve local and out-of-state travel and may require work outside of normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as needed.
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Design, or a related field.
0 - 4 years applicable experience.
Proficiency with technical software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, and/or StoryMaps.
Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Valid Driver’s License and ability to pass Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with community engagement tools such as Survey123, Social Pinpoint, etc.
Experience working with state and/or federal funding programs.
Experience working with brownfield properties
Graphic design capabilities.
Ability to create and manage social media content.
