Job summary

Salud Para La Gente seeks a Staff Dentist to deliver comprehensive dental services to clinic patients, under the Dental Director. You will diagnose, plan treatment, perform preventive and restorative care, endodontics, prosthetics, and pediatric dentistry with emphasis on education and prevention.

The ideal candidate will support the mission through collaboration, excellence, and community accountability, with strong Spanish/English bilingual abilities and California licensure.

Qualifications

• DDS/DMD from an accredited dental school.
• Current, valid California dentist license.
• Basic Cardio Life Support certification within six months.
• Bilingual Spanish/English required.
• Willingness to work Saturday shifts.
• Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, plan treatment, and provide comprehensive dental care for patients.
• Perform prophylaxis, scaling, subgingival curettage, root planing, and patient education.
• Perform endodontic therapy and restorative dentistry.
• Perform oral surgery with consideration for patient health.
• Provide immediate treatment of dental emergencies and manage daily staff activities.
• Prescribe medications and submit staff evaluations in a timely fashion.

Job description

The Staff Dentist, under the supervision of the Dental Director, is responsible for providing basic dental services for clinic patients, including but not limited to: diagnosis, treatment planning, routine restorative care, periodontal treatment, oral surgery, endodontic treatment, prosthetics and pediatric dentistry. Emphasizes the importance of education and prevention to patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Consistently adhere to and/or exceed SPLG’s communication guidelines and expectations with internal and external customers including co-workers, patients, and external partners.
• Communicate effectively by using welcoming words, proper tone of voice, appropriate body language, eye contact and smiling in all interactions. Listen skillfully and display a willingness and ability to acknowledge patient and co-workers’ needs, expectations and values through the use of reflective listening and empathy conveyance. Respond to co-worker and patient needs in ways that are helpful and beyond expectation.
• Create reports as required by Salud Para La Gente, county, state and federal contracts.
• Manage the daily activities of all dental staff.
• Examine, diagnosis, and plan treatment for patients.
• Perform prophylaxis, scaling, subgingival curettage, root planning, and oral hygiene instruction.
• Perform endodontic therapy.
• Perform restorative dentistry.
• Perform oral surgery with special consideration given to patient's general health.
• Provide immediate treatment of dental emergencies.
• Provide local anesthesia.
• Prescribe medications as necessary.
• Submit evaluations of staff in a timely fashion.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Holds a degree from an accredited dental school.
• Has a current, valid license to practice dentistry; issued by the California State Board of Dental Examiners.
• Be up to date on current dental principles, practices and materials.
• Possess certification in Basic-Cardio Life Support within six months of employment.
• Bilingual Spanish/English required.
• Must be available to work Saturday shifts as requested.
• Supervisory experience.

Physical Demands

• Standing, walking, sitting, typing, reaching, bending, moving and/or lifting up to 50 pounds.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $84.14 to $104.84 per hour.

Employment Type: Full Time.

Benefits: available to all regular Salud employees working 24+ hours per week. Part-time employees may receive some benefits on a pro-rated basis.
