Anthology is looking for a qualified candidate to join our Cloud Services Database Administration team. The Cloud Services team is responsible for delivering high-availability, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions to our customers. The team supports this mission by delivering highly available, secure, and performant databases for our applications.

The candidate will primarily work as a Senior SQL Server and PostgreSQL database administrator in various hosting environments, including self-hosted physical and virtual machines, as well as cloud-based infrastructure on Azure and Amazon Web Services. The successful candidate will have experience across all standard database administration activities in both hosted and cloud environments, with additional experience in advanced areas like replication, high availability, reporting, and scripting skills.

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Deploying new database systems and ancillary services, including design, layout, configuration, and tuning
  2. Monitoring existing database systems for availability, performance, and scalability
  3. Maintaining database security, ensuring appropriate access, regular backups, and testing restore procedures
  4. Troubleshooting issues impacting database availability, stability, and performance, including the operating system and SQL queries
  5. Understanding query profiling infrastructure, execution statistics, and execution plans
  6. Analyzing and editing database objects, code, and scripts
  7. Documenting databases, processes, procedures, and incident reports
  8. Collaborating with other database administrators, internal teams, and external clients
  9. Developing a thorough understanding of application infrastructure and systems design related to databases

Work schedule: This role requires the willingness to work 5 days a week, including shifts (morning/afternoon/night), weekends, and on-call as needed.

The Candidate:

Required skills and qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience managing SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases, including installation, configuration, deployment, and general administration
  • Experience with virtualization, including Microsoft Azure Cloud and Amazon Web Services
  • Basic knowledge of Windows OS and its interaction with databases
  • Scripting skills in Transact-SQL, batch files, and PowerShell
  • Experience with SQL Server replication types and supporting services
  • Designing, configuring, and testing database high availability models
  • Experience with reporting services such as SSRS, Analysis Services, and PowerBI
  • Ability to review and ensure data integrity, performance, and storage optimization in database changes

Preferred skills and qualifications:

  • Linux OS experience
  • Knowledge of other relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience with Azure SQL and SQL Managed Instance
  • Additional scripting languages like Bash, Python, Rust, or Go
  • Microsoft DP-300 Certification
