Job summary

Discord is seeking a Staff Data Scientist to lead the Experimentation Platform, ensuring rigorous causal inference and scalable experimentation across the organization. You will shape the vision, partner with engineering and product, and mentor a 50+ person data science team.

You will conduct original causal inference research, train cross-functional teams, and help data-driven decisions through fast, reliable experimentation. This role is based in San Francisco Bay Area.

Qualifications

• Proven experience leading experimentation platform work and validating statistical methodologies.
• PhD in a quantitative field or equivalent practical experience, plus 4+ years designing, implementing, and analyzing experiments or causal inference projects.
• Ability to evaluate and recommend statistical approaches balancing velocity and reliability across product launches.
• Strong passion for education with ability to communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience delivering training materials related to experimentation, causal inference, or statistical analysis.

Responsibilities

• Formulate the vision and roadmap for the Experimentation Platform in partnership with engineering, product, and data science stakeholders.
• Provide statistical expertise ensuring sound methodologies and alignment with best practices in causal inference and experimental design.
• Partner with engineering and product to improve reliability, scalability, and adoption of experimentation.
• Lead initiatives to educate cross-functional teams through workshops and educational materials.
• Empower the data science team to adopt rigorous causal inference methods.
• Lead and conduct original causal inference research on high-priority questions in collaboration with the data science team.
• Engage directly with experimentation customers to enable fast, data-driven decisions.
