Walmart seeks a Staff Data Scientist to provide technical leadership for large-scale Search and Personalization initiatives. You''ll shape architecture, mentor scientists, and partner across engineering and product teams to deploy scalable ML systems that enhance product discovery and business outcomes.

The role sits in the Applied AI Search & Personalization team, which builds advanced retrieval, ranking, recommendation, and personalization models with Generative AI to enrich the shopping

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor''s or Master''s degree in a relevant field with analytics experience.
• Experience building production AI/ML systems at scale and leading architecture decisions.
• Proven ability to influence architecture and mentor technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture and technical direction for Search and Personalization ML systems.
• Design scalable retrieval, ranking, recommendation, and personalization algorithms.
• Drive adoption of Generative AI, LLMs, embeddings, and semantic search.
• Lead cross-functional initiatives involving Product, Engineering, Platform, and Data Science teams.
• Establish experimentation frameworks and best practices for model development and evaluation.
• Mentor senior scientists and review technical designs across initiatives.
• Influence long-term AI strategy and technology investments.
• Drive measurable improvements in customer engagement, search relevance, and business metrics.
