Job summary

John Deere seeks a Staff Data Scientist to lead scalable data science and ML initiatives in Austin, TX. You will shape problem framing, develop production-ready solutions, and collaborate with Product, Engineering, and agronomy teams to deliver data-driven insights.

You will mentor other scientists, ensure model validation and governance, and stay current with AI and analytics advances, applying causal inference and sequencing methods where relevant.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant data science/analytics experience in ML, AI, or related roles.
• Experience leading on one or more projects with mentorship or guidance for staff.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with production-grade modeling experience.
• Ability to turn ambiguous business problems into structured analytical plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end data science initiatives from problem framing to deployment and production support.
• Design and build scalable ML, statistical, causal inference, and sequence analysis solutions.
• Develop production-ready models, data pipelines, and analytical workflows using Python, SQL, Spark, and cloud platforms.
• Partner with product, engineering, agronomy/domain experts, and leadership to define use cases and delivery plans.
• Establish model validation, monitoring, data quality, and governance practices for reliable insights.
• Provide mentorship to other data scientists and guide best practices in code quality and deployment.
• Manage multiple cross-functional initiatives, prioritize work, and communicate risks clearly.
• Translate complex methods into actionable recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
