Job summary

Checkr, Inc. in San Francisco, CA is hiring a Staff Data Engineer for the People Data team. You’ll own the core data platform services, data pipelines, and architecture that power Checkr's AI-powered verification platform across multiple products.

You will design end-to-end data solutions, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with product teams to deliver high-quality, customer-focused features. This role requires strong PySpark, Python, and SQL expertise and deep data engineering knowledge.

Qualifications

• 10+ years designing, implementing, and delivering highly scalable data platforms.
• Experience building large-scale data processing pipelines using ETL/ELT, batch, and stream processing.
• Expert-level proficiency in PySpark, Python, and SQL.
• Expertise in data modeling, relational databases, and NoSQL data stores (e.g., MongoDB).

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, lead, and build an end-to-end data platform.
• Work as an independent contributor with minimal oversight and strong ownership.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers to deliver complex features.
• Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to resolve ambiguities and ship features.
• Partner with teams to design and architect new features.
• Experimentation mindset to validate customer needs and ship MVPs.
• Maintain high quality in software deliverables.
• Monitor, triage, and resolve production issues.
• Create and maintain data pipelines and foundational datasets.
