Job summary

Everyday Electric is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead end-to-end data platform strategy, real-time streaming pipelines, and a lakehouse ecosystem across North America. You will architect high-throughput, fault-tolerant infrastructure to process telemetry from millions of homes for analytics and ML initiatives.

This role blends technical leadership with hands-on implementation, mentoring engineers, and shaping engineering culture in a fully remote US environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software and data engineering experience with architectural leadership.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience designing, building, and operating production-grade high-volume batch and real-time data streaming architectures (Kafka, Flink, Kinesis, Lambda).
• Deep expertise building scalable data lake architectures (AWS S3, Iceberg, AWS Glue, Delta Lake) and managing structured and unstructured device telemetry data.
• Expert hands-on proficiency in database design, performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and partitioning with AWS Redshift and PostgreSQL Aurora.
• Mastery of Python and SQL with CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CDKTF and AWS CDK.
• Self-starter with analytical and problem-solving skills; able to turn complex problems into scalable solutions.
• Proven ability to mentor engineering talent and drive cross-functional alignment across teams.
• Bonuses: experience with Spark/Ray, open-source contributions, and relevant cloud certifications.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term data architecture vision, roadmap, and design standards across Everyday Electric's data ecosystem.
• Lead design and implementation of fault-tolerant batch and real-time streaming data infrastructure processing data from millions of devices.
• Collaborate with application and analytics teams to drive data architecture delivery.
• Direct database architecture and performance tuning across PostgreSQL Aurora and AWS Redshift.
• Set high standards for data pipelines, monitoring, data quality, and uptime; lead on-call operations.
• Mentor senior and mid-level data engineers and promote best practices.
• Evaluate, prototype, and integrate modern data technologies (Python, Redshift, Postgres, AWS/GCP, Lambda, Kinesis, Prefect, Iceberg, Terraform) for system evolution.
