Job summary

Medidata Solutions is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead scalable data ingestion, migration, CDC, streaming, and ETL/ELT solutions within the Data Nexus team. You will influence architecture, guide engineering standards, and mentor engineers across multiple projects.

In this hybrid role based in NYC, you will work with AWS, Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Kafka, and Iceberg to modernize data warehousing and enable AI-assisted data experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software or data engineering experience.
• Strong understanding of modern data engineering patterns including ETL/ELT, CDC, streaming, data modeling, data migration, and distributed data processing.
• Proficiency in SQL and languages such as Python, Java, Scala, or equivalent.
• Experience with Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, and similar platforms.
• Experience designing and operating cloud-native data solutions on AWS or other major cloud platforms.
• Hands-on experience with streaming and lakehouse technologies such as Kafka, Apache Iceberg, S3, and data catalog technologies.
• Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
• Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools in software engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable data ingestion, migration, CDC, streaming, and ETL/ELT solutions.
• Provide technical leadership for large-scale data migrations and platform modernization.
• Design reusable data products and services supporting Medidata applications, analytics, and AI/ML.
• Drive modernization across cloud data warehousing, orchestration, streaming, and lakehouse architectures.
• Design scalable data models, transformation frameworks, APIs, and integration patterns for complex workloads.
• Improve data quality, observability, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency across the platform.
• Lead technical design discussions and collaborate across Product, Engineering, QA, and Architecture teams.
• Mentor engineers and establish engineering patterns and best practices across the team.
• Leverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate development, testing, and documentation.
• Identify opportunities to apply Generative AI to improve how users interact with data.
