Job summary

National Grid is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to join our hybrid team working from Waltham, MA or Brooklyn, NY. You will design scalable data pipelines, develop API integrations, and drive data governance and quality initiatives to support analytics across the business.

You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with analytics and business units, and help modernize our data architecture to improve speed, reliability, and insights for internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Lead the Data engineering Team to Develop, test, document and support scalable data pipelines.
• Build out new data integrations including APIs to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity.
• Establish and follow data governance processes and guidelines to ensure data availability, usability, consistency, integrity, and security.
• Build and implement scalable solutions that align to our data governance standards and architectural road maps for data integrations, data storage, reporting, and analytic solutions.
• Collaborate with analytics and business teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence tools, increasing data accessibility, and fostering data-driven decision making across the organization.
• Design and develop data integrations and a data quality framework. Write unit/integration/functional tests and document work.
• Design, implement, and automate deployment of our distributed system for collecting and processing streaming events from multiple sources
• Perform data analysis needed to troubleshoot data-related issues and aid in the resolution of data issues.
• Guide and mentor junior engineers on coding best practices and optimization.

Responsibilities

• Own assembling architectural plans and artifacts for projects the org is taking on - a driver of system architecture outside of the team scope.
• Executes on large projects for the org and breaks work down for themselves and others. Able to integrate the work within org, identifying edge cases and exception states.
• Usually involved in architectural designs for the org - consulted for their software design expertise on and off the team.
• Looks to solve not just the immediate problem for their team, but similar problems for the org, generalizing to broader solutions where appropriate
• Understands and incorporates our key technology frameworks used company-wide, occasionally a contributor to the core engineering solutions.
• Proactively looking to get ahead of what will come next, for the team and for the org on the technical roadmap.
• A driver of the org tech roadmap - a participant in the prioritization and planning of this work.
