Job summary

Lydian is hiring a Staff Controls & Automation Engineer to design, build, and own a state-of-the-art controls architecture for a novel chemical process. You will start with a pilot plant and scale toward automated, remote operation of plants at every scale.

The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of classical control and automation equipment, plus the ability to push beyond PLCs and integrate advanced control techniques into a maintainable system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related field.
• 10+ years owning automation systems for continuous chemical/energy processes.
• Strong control theory and process dynamics knowledge.
• Hands-on deployment of MPC or model-based controllers.
• Experience with PLC platforms and SCADA/HMI systems.

Responsibilities

• Architect the full control stack for pilot → demo → commercial plants.
• Develop modular PLCs/Safety PLCs and reusable function blocks.
• Own interlocks, fail-safe logic, alarm design, and safety instrumental functions.
• Implement state estimators and inferential sensing for process variables.
• Collaborate with process, mechanical, electrical, and operations teams.
