Job Summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Staff Communications Engineer – Antenna Co‑site to join our team in Melbourne, FL. The engineer will serve as a key member of an interdisciplinary team developing innovative solutions to advanced technical problems, focusing on communications subsystems architecture, performance analysis, requirements development, integration, testing, and supplier management.

Responsibilities
  • Support development and integration of communications subsystems and components to meet platform mission objectives.
  • Develop, analyze, mature and implement requirements, translating customer needs into hardware and software specifications.
  • Conduct performance and functional analyses, detailed trade studies, risk analysis, and mitigation planning.
  • Collaborate with engineers and program stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain supplier documentation, performance‐based specifications, and statements of work.
  • Provide technical management of program strategic partners and suppliers, including acquisition, acceptance, qualification, integration, and test support.
  • Review supplier development documents and support technical interchange meetings and design reviews.
  • Plan and execute informal and formal testing of subsystem requirements in the lab, troubleshoot hardware, and perform ground and flight tests to validate and verify requirements.
  • Engage in technical discussions with the customer and maintain daily interaction with management, external personnel, and cross‑functional teams.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and risk‑mitigation skills, holding the team to high technical rigor.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline with 12+ years of engineering experience, or Master’s degree with 10+ years, or Ph.D. with 8+ years.
  • Knowledge of electromagnetics in the RF spectrum (VHF through Ka bands).
  • Experience designing, developing, integrating, and/or testing RF equipment for airborne platforms.
  • Ability to design, select, and characterize RF components to meet mission objectives.
  • Experience in Computational Electromagnetic (CEM) antenna analysis for co‑site applications.
  • Experience with LOS and BLOS communication systems, voice and military waveforms, cryptographic implementations, RF antenna and component design.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret Clearance (within the past 6 years or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and ability to obtain or maintain SAP clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Problem‑solving and data analysis skills.
  • System engineering design methods, requirements flow‑down, interface documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and teamwork.
  • Direct experience with internal/external technical and programmatic stakeholders.
  • Model‑based systems engineering (Cameo or similar SysML tools).
  • Performance analysis using MATLAB, Excel, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence).
  • Supplier/subcontract management, including document development and technical evaluation.
Salary & Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 – $229,300.00. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives for senior roles. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, paid holidays, and PTO.
