Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Cloud Platform - Nova to help build GM’s next generation cloud platform, Nova, powering OnStar, GM Energy, and partnerships. The role requires leading through technical execution and enabling internal teams to run software at scale.

You’ll design and implement platform capabilities, improve reliability and observability, and mentor engineers while contributing to architecture and code quality. This position is hybrid with multiple centers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• 8+ years of engineering or architecture experience.
• Strong software engineering experience with production cloud/platform systems.
• Strong OOP skills and history of building complex systems.
• Experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native platform architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement shared cloud platform capabilities focusing on Kubernetes-based systems.
• Build reusable abstractions, tooling, and platform services to reduce internal complexity.
• Develop operators and controllers to improve automation and operability.
• Enhance monitoring, observability, deployment patterns, and release safety.
• Improve developer experience and platform usability for internal customers.
• Collaborate across teams to scale solutions across the platform.
• Lead architecture and code quality discussions and mentor engineers.
• Participate in on-call and incident response to improve platform reliability.
• Ensure platform services run across Azure and GCP with reliability and scalability.
• Influence technical direction without formal authority.
