Job summary

LACO Associates in Chico, CA is seeking a Staff Engineer to assist in designing and improving water and wastewater systems, roads, and infrastructure for public, private, and tribal clients. The role emphasizes collaboration and learning, with opportunities to contribute to project details under supervision.

The candidate should have a BS in Civil Engineering (EIT preferred) and be prepared to obtain certification within the first year. Travel and field work may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Principles and practices of civil engineering, construction design, surveying, inspection, cost estimation, contract administration, engineering materials and methods.
  • Planning and analysis of engineering systems for land development including streets, highways, water, storm drains, and grading.
  • Develop plans for facility and infrastructure projects.
  • Represent the firm in meetings with clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple tasks with deadlines and prepare technical reports and estimates.

Salary Range: $73,000.00 To $83,000.00 Annually

JOB DESCRIPTION

LACO Associates is a majority Native owned multi-disciplinary consulting firm located on California’s North Coast with offices in Eureka, Chico, Ukiah, and Santa Rosa. LACO’s team of engineers, surveyors, planners, and grant writers works with public-, private-, and tribal-sector clients to support land development, environmental restoration, environmental compliance, and program implementation. LACO’s team endeavors to work closely with our clients to improve the communities where we live and work.

SUMMARY

A Staff Engineer assists in creating, improving, and protecting our immediate environment. In this position, the individual drafts and assists in the design of construction and rebuilding, as well as the maintenance of water and wastewater systems, roads, drainage facilities, subdivision development, parks and recreation facilities, and Tribal Housing. The Staff Engineer should be open to learning and have basic knowledge of general engineering practices to identify and solve engineering problems. This individual should have a level of creativity to present innovative solutions and improvements to technical processes. The Staff Engineer can effectively communicate ideas, receive recommendations, and create project details with the assistance of their supervisor and team.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Public infrastructure background
Formal education or equivalent
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Engineer in Training preferred or the ability to obtain certification within the first year

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Principles and practices of civil engineering, construction design, surveying, inspection, cost estimation, contract administration, engineering materials and methods
  • Planning and analysis of engineering systems needed for the use of land development including streets, highways, water, storm drains, and grading
  • Basic computer knowledge, including MS Office applications and computer-aided drafting (CAD) concepts and applications
  • Develop plans for facility and infrastructure projects
  • Effectively represent the firm in meeting with clients, governmental agencies, community groups, and various business and professional organizations
  • Manage multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines
  • Prepare technical reports and plans, specifications, and estimates
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, government officials, general public, representatives of public and private organizations and others sufficient to exchange or convey information
