Job summary

Fastly is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for CIAM in a hybrid, US-based role with locations including Denver, CO. You will design and operate authentication and authorization systems, lead major initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate across security, product, and engineering to deliver scalable identity solutions.

The role requires 7+ years in CIAM or related fields, deep knowledge of identity standards, and a strong systems design background.

Qualifications

• Significant experience designing and operating authentication and authorization systems in production.
• Deep knowledge of identity standards (OIDC, OAuth, SAML, JWT, SSO).
• Experience with service-to-service authentication and secure communications in distributed systems.
• Strong software architecture and system design background focusing on scalability, performance, reliability, and security.
• Proven ability to provide technical leadership across multiple teams through architectural guidance and delivery.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design and build secure, scalable identity services.
• Lead complex initiatives from design through production.
• Serve as technical lead for CIAM areas; review designs and guide decisions.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and security to shape plans and priorities.
• Break down ambiguous problems into practical, incremental solutions with high quality.
• Promote modern identity patterns and best practices across the CIAM platform.
• Improve reliability, security, and maintainability of identity services.
• Mentor engineers in CIAM through reviews and collaborative problem solving.
• Contribute to an inclusive engineering culture grounded in curiosity and continuous improvement.
• Participate in on-call rotation as needed.
