Position Overview

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Staff Chief Engineer to guide the technical direction of all engineering aspects on a program, including design, development, implementation, testing and delivery of products. The role is full‑time, on‑site at the Rolling Meadows, IL location and requires a U.S. Government Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

The Staff Chief Engineer acts as the technical leader for the engineering team and an independent advisor to the program manager. The position coordinates across all engineering disciplines to ensure that teams adhere to engineering processes in accordance with company policies, procedures and quality standards. The role supports the full engineering cycle from proposal/requirements analysis through verification testing and fielding of systems.

Basic Qualifications

• BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Physics or other STEM field with 12+ years of related experience, or MS degree with 10+ years of experience, or PhD with 8+ years of experience.
• 5+ years of related engineering experience at a defense contractor during EMD and/or LRIP phases.
• Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem‑solving.
• Experience creating and delivering technical presentations to internal and external leadership.
• Experience collaborating on complex projects that encompass hardware, software, and firmware.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum U.S. Government Secret Clearance (additional customer‑specified clearance required).
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in all aspects of the engineering process from proposal/requirements analysis through verification testing and fielding of systems.
• Experience in a Systems Engineering Integration & Test environment from one or more of the following areas: EOIR systems, sensors, optics, antenna design, direction finding, geolocation, threat analysis.
• Experience decomposing requirements for DoD-based platforms or systems.
• Expertise in SysML modeling and MBSE tools (e.g., IBM Rational DOORS, Enterprise Architect, Cameo).
• Ability to develop and maintain system models, traceability matrices, and verification cross‑reference artifacts.
• Experience in development and Earned Value Management (EVM) of cost accounts and schedules.
• Active U.S. Government Secret or Top‑Secret security clearance.

Benefits and Compensation

Salary range: $169,000 - $253,600. Additional benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, paid holidays, paid time off and annual bonuses. Overtime, shift differential and discretionary bonuses may apply.
