Known as “Kansas City’s Essential Hospital,” UH is the safety net healthcare system for Jackson County/Kansas City. We are an academic medical center, serving as the primary teaching institution for the UMKC Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, and Pharmacy.
The Staff Chaplain, or PRN Chaplain, provides age-appropriate spiritual, emotional, and sacramental ministry for patients, families, and the staff of Truman Medical Centers, Inc. Chaplains serve through interdisciplinary care, 24/7 in-house on the Hospital Hill campus. They maintain professional Chaplain Certification and actively participate in continuing education. Chaplains are encouraged to have a strong overall background and are encouraged to specialize in a particular area of care (Oncology, Cardiology, OB/GYN, etc.). Staff chaplains, serving cooperatively with other chaplains, provide appropriate religious/spiritual rites and services sensitive to the variety of spiritual/cultural/religious needs of patients, families, and staff. Chaplains work in a team context, with accountability to one another and the Director of Spiritual Health Services.
