Job summary

Snap Inc. is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate highly scalable services that power Snapchat and related products.

You will collaborate across teams to understand requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver robust backend solutions at scale. You will champion best practices for availability, security, and operational excellence, while leveraging AI tools to accelerate development and maintain high-quality, production-ready code.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science or equivalent work experience.
• 9+ years of post-Bachelor software development experience; or a Master’s + 8+ years; or a PhD + 5+ years.
• 1+ years of experience with technical leadership or domain-expertise roles.
• Experience with distributed systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and operate our most critical and scalable services (identity, friend graph, core persistence).
• Collaborate across teams to translate product requirements into scalable solutions.
• Test, debug, and uphold high quality in code and architecture.
• Advocate for availability, scalability, and cost-effective operations.
• Leverage AI tools to accelerate development while ensuring architecture integrity and security.
