Job summary

DoorDash is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate large-scale backend services powering a global 3-sided marketplace. You’ll work on product and platform teams, drive architecture decisions, and mentor junior engineers in a hybrid in-office setting.

The role emphasizes cross-functional collaboration, performance optimization, and transitioning to microservices. Strong backend, REST, and data-store expertise are essential, along with a passion for scalable, secure systems.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 8+ years of industry experience.
• Proficiency with backend stacks and service oriented architectures.
• Experience designing REST APIs and unit testing.
• Knowledge of HTTP/web stack and scalability concerns.

Responsibilities

• Develop, release and run large-scale web applications.
• Define backend architecture and tech stack for product areas.
• Improve performance, reliability, scalability and security of backend systems.
• Transition monolithic codebase to microservices architecture.
• Collaborate cross-functionally and mentor peers.
