Scribd, Inc. is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Fable Core backend. You will set technical direction, own reliability, and collaborate with product, design, ML, and infrastructure partners to turn ambiguous product intent into durable systems.

Our stack includes Python/Django, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, Datadog, and GCP/AWS, and we seek 10+ years of backend experience. This role is based in the United States with in-person collaboration in Boston and other U.S. cities.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend development experience.
• Proficient in Python/Django and at least one other stack.
• Experience operating production systems on a major cloud platform (OLTP, containers, CI/CD).
• Ability to write a Technical Design Document and translate product intent into backend design.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration with senior PM, design, and ML teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for the Fable backend and socialize designs.
• Own backend reliability, staging, CI/CD, databases, queues, cost, and observability.
• Lead incident response and durable postmortems; ship action items.
• Be the backend voice in cross-team planning and execution.
