Scribd, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Fable Core backend. You will define technical direction, own platform reliability, and partner across product, ML, and infra teams to deliver durable backend systems.

You’ll lead incidents end-to-end and mentor the team to raise the bar on design, testing, and operations. The role requires deep backend experience, strong Python/Django skills, and a track record of cross-functional collaboration in a cloud environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend experience.
• Proficient in Python/Django and another stack (Go/Node/Java/Kotlin).
• Experience operating production systems on a major cloud; OLTP databases at scale, container orchestration, CI/CD.
• Track record of owning incidents end-to-end and following through.

Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for the Fable backend and socialize design.
• Own backend reliability, staging, CI/CD, databases, queues, cost, and observability.
• Lead incident response and durable postmortems; drive actionable outcomes.
• Be the backend voice in cross-team planning and cross-functional execution.
• Raise the team’s bar on design, testing, and ops via mentoring and reviews.
• Build and evolve the Fable backend platform for faster, safer shipping.
• Introduce agentic engineering practices in day-to-day work.
