Job summary

Harris County Auditor’s Office in Houston seeks a Staff Auditor to support Assurance and Advisory Services. You will participate in audits from planning through fieldwork and reporting, including first-time audits, helping identify risks and improve processes.

The role offers a hybrid work arrangement with on-site presence required several days per week, and opportunities for professional growth within a large county government.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or related technical subject matter.
• Zero to two years of relevant work experience.
• Basic knowledge of auditing, accounting business processes or related technical matters.
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft 365 or equivalent software.

Responsibilities

• Assist with project risk assessments, scoping, and audit work plan development under supervision.
• Execute audit engagements in accordance with standards, local regulations, and policies.
• Prepare clear, concise audit workpapers and documentation with attention to detail.
• Perform audit test work, review transactions and supporting documents, interview clients, and assist with special projects.
• Research applicable laws, regulations, and County structures; identify findings and propose cost-effective recommendations.
• Support senior auditors by drafting concise audit reports and updating audit programs.
