Job summary

603 Legal Aid seeks a Staff Attorney to advocate for low-income residents, focusing on housing, family law, and Veterans benefits. The role blends direct representation with program coordination, outreach, and compliance for the Hope for Heroes initiative.

You will work in Concord, NH, delivering services in person and via virtual or mobile outreach, with VA collaboration and ongoing staff development.

Qualifications

• Admitted to NH bar or eligible to obtain admission within one year of hire.
• Experience in litigation, client representation, and/or legal advising.
• Commitment to public interest law and social justice; trauma-informed practice.
• Familiarity with Veterans issues, homelessness, housing instability or poverty.
• Experience with grant-funded programs including documentation, reporting and compliance.
• Strong written and verbal communication; organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, community partners, and clients.
• NH courts or administrative systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active civil caseload across housing, family, Veteran’s benefits, income support, and other issues.
• Obtain VA accreditation and represent Veterans in service-connected benefits and upgrades.
• Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, and support clients navigating legal systems.
• Collaborate and co-counsel with other staff attorneys as needed.
• Connect clients with legal and social service partners for holistic support.
• Deliver services in person, virtually and in community settings, including on-site visits and mobile outreach.
• Manage monthly medical-legal partnership with VA campus and provide on-site services monthly.
• Review medical and military records to submit VA service-connection claims.
• Maintain and review claims through VBMS.
