Job summary

Legal Aid of Nebraska is seeking a Staff Attorney for the Scottsbluff office to provide direct civil legal representation to eligible clients and advocate for vulnerable Nebraskans.

Responsibilities include evaluating potential cases, conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, negotiating settlements, and representing clients in hearings, litigation, and appeals as appropriate. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Bar admission in Nebraska or eligibility for admission/waiver in Nebraska.
• Experience in legal aid, public interest law, poverty law, or community-based legal services is valued.
• Bilingual or multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply.

What You’ll Do

As a Staff Attorney, you’ll provide direct legal representation to eligible clients in a variety of civil legal matters while serving as a trusted advocate for vulnerable Nebraskans.

Responsibilities include:

• Evaluating potential cases and determining appropriate representation.
• Conducting legal research and factual investigations.
• Drafting pleadings, motions, correspondence, and other legal documents.

Requirements

Successful candidates will have:

• Strong legal research, writing, litigation, and communication skills.

• The ability to manage cases independently while working collaboratively with colleagues.
• A passion for advancing access to justice.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
