POSITION OVERVIEW

Staff attorneys will be responsible for zealously representing individuals pursuing benefits or seeking relief under the Immigration and Nationality Act. The Staff Attorney works as a team with Legal Assistants and other staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct representation to a large caseload of individuals and/or families in immigration matters before courts, agencies, and in interviews, including EOIR, BIA, ICE, USCIS, and others.
  • Conducts immigration screenings, explains rights, options, benefits, and risks to clients.
  • Coordinates with other departments for client services.
  • Ensures accurate case data entry and contributes to grant reporting.
  • Supervises legal assistant staff and represents RAICES in community and media engagements.
  • Provides pro se assistance to prospective clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Current good standing bar membership in the U.S.
  • Barred in Texas preferred; may be required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Able to pass a Federal Background Check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of experience in Immigration, Family, or Criminal Law.
  • Law school experience considered.
  • Experience in immigration and/or criminal law preferred.
  • Bar membership in good standing; Texas barred preferred but not required.

Hybrid Workplan
