Job summary

San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program (SDVLP) is seeking a Staff Attorney to mentor pro bono attorneys and provide trauma-informed civil legal services to low-income residents of San Diego County.

The role includes supervising volunteers, maintaining training resources, and collaborating with the Pro Bono Team to ensure high-quality client representation while expanding access to justice across SDVLP locations.

Qualifications

• Active member in good standing of the State Bar of California.
• Minimum of one year of experience practicing law.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills with ability to engage diverse audiences.
• Strong mentoring, coaching, and training abilities.
• Proficiency in Office 365 and case management software.
• Bilingual with Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Pro Bono Program Support: Train, mentor, support, and recruit pro bono attorney volunteers.
• Develop and maintain legal training materials and program resources.
• Collaborate with the Pro Bono Team to ensure high-quality client representation.
• Client Advocacy & Legal Services: Provide trauma-informed legal advice and representation to low-income individuals.
• Handle civil matters including domestic violence, restraining orders, family law, and related areas.
• Assess client needs and connect with legal and community resources.
• Community Outreach & Education: Build relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
• Conduct outreach, legal education, and presentations to increase access to services.
• Represent SDVLP at events and meetings.
• Program Administration & Leadership: Supervise non-attorney staff, volunteers, and interns.
• Maintain case data, track outcomes, and assist with grant reporting.
• Support special projects aligned with SDVLP's mission.
