Job summary

Prairie State Legal Services, Inc. seeks a Staff Attorney to join the Moline office. The role focuses on delivering legal services to low-income individuals across housing, family, benefits and other civil issues, with outreach and education at community sites.

The attorney will handle investigations, research, counseling, and representation in administrative and court settings, contributing to a mission-driven, collaborative environment with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Admitted to practice in Illinois or another state with reciprocity; next bar exam considered.
• Experience in trial advocacy and negotiation preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; proficient in legal research.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal services to low-income clients across housing, family, public benefits, consumer, health, education and related areas.
• Interview applicants and assess issues with focus on immediate basic needs impact.
• Prepare legal documents, research, counsel, and represent clients in admin and judicial proceedings.
• Develop relationships with local bar associations, government bodies, and community agencies.
• Conduct outreach events and provide client education and intake at partner sites.
• Document services for grant reporting and maintain case records.
• Participate in internal task forces related to our practice areas.

Responsibilities

• Providelegalservicestolow-incomeindividualscoveringawiderangeoflegalissues,includinghousing,family,public benefits, consumer, health, education, and other areas

• Provide legal services including legal research and factual investigation, counsel and advice, brief services and documentpreparation,disputeresolution,andrepresentationof clientsinadministrativeandjudicialproceedings
• Developandmaintainnetworkingrelationshipswithlocalbarassociationsandwithlocal,state,andfederal governments and community agencies that serve our client population
• Conductoutreacheventswith clientcommunities,includingclienteducationandintakeeventsatcommunitypartnerlocations
• Provideaccurateand completeinformationforgrantreportingto grantfunders,includingdocumentingservicesinthe case record
• Activelyparticipateinaninternaltaskforcerelatedtooneormoreareasof ourpractice

SalaryandBenefits

The Staff Attorney position is a full-time position at 37.5 hours per week. PSLS offers a salary that is competitive with similarorganizations. Our StaffAttorney salary starts at$70,000per year for newly licensed attorneys and increases with eachyearofrelevantexperience. Qualifications
