HonorHealth is seeking a Staff Attorney to support our General Counsel and in-house team. The role focuses on healthcare law matters, including contracts, affiliations, privacy, and regulatory compliance, with growth potential and long-term advancement.

Hybrid work arrangement with 1–2 days in the office per week; the attorney will advise on a wide range of issues and contribute to policy developments in a dynamic health system environment.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate Degree accredited by the ABA is required
  • 1 year healthcare-related experience is required
  • 2+ years healthcare legal experience is preferred
  • Must be licensed to practice in Arizona or eligible to practice in another state and registered as in-house counsel or licensed in Arizona

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to Supervising Attorneys on legal issues, claims analysis, staff advice, and policy reviews to ensure compliance
  • Research federal and state healthcare laws and regulations impacting the organization, including Medicare/Medicaid, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, HIPAA, and antitrust issues
  • Draft, negotiate, and review contracts and related documents including clinical services, procurement, affiliations, leases, and software licenses
  • Offer general legal advice to senior management, medical staff, and employees to address operational issues and patient-related situations

Location: Hybrid -- 1-2 days in the office per week

Working closely with experienced attorneys, this role provides a unique opportunity to develop expertise in high-impact areas of healthcare law, including information technology contracts, data use and privacy matters, and physician contracting. JOB SUMMARY

The Staff Attorney is responsible for supporting the Assistant General Counsel, Associate General Counsel and General Counsel ("Supervising Attorneys") in advising on a wide variety of legal matters, including contract language, affiliations, labor and employment laws, leases, medical staff matters, and fraud and abuse analysis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Under the supervision of the Supervising Attorneys, provides support to designated areas of the organization on legal issues, which may include analysis of claims, providing advice to staff, and review of policy revisions to comply with federal and state requirements.
  • Researches a broad range of laws and regulations affecting the organization, including but not limited to federal and state laws and regulations affecting the business of healthcare facilities; Medicare, Medicaid, fraud and abuse, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, HIPAA, and antitrust issues; procurement; conflict of interest; compliance; tax-exempt issues; labor and employment; and sponsored research related issues. Prepares legal memoranda as requested by the Supervising Attorneys.
  • Drafts, negotiates, and reviews contracts and related documents, which may include the provision of health care and related services, procurement of goods and services, affiliation with other institutions, clinical trials, confidentiality of proprietary information, physician employment and services, leases of space and equipment, software licenses, and electronic transmission of healthcare data. Participates in following the administration of the organization’s contracting practices.
  • Under the supervision of the Supervising Attorneys, provides general legal advice and direction to the organization’s family of companies, senior management, the medical staff, leadership and employees on a wide variety of matters to resolve operational issues, including patient related situations.
EDUCATION
  • Doctorate Degree accredited by the American Bar Association Required
EXPERIENCE
  • 1 year Healthcare related experience Required
  • 2 years (2+) plus years' Healthcare legal experience Preferred
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Must be registered as an attorney with the Supreme Court of Arizona and be licensed to appear and practice in all courts and agencies in the State of Arizona or licensed to practice in another state and registered as in-house counsel or licensed in Arizona 1 Year Required
