Job summary

The ACLU seeks applicants for a full-time Staff Attorney, Senior Staff Attorney, or Senior Counsel in the National Prison Project, based in Washington, DC, San Francisco, CA, or New York, NY. This two-year term-limited, hybrid role requires in-office presence two days per week or eight days per month and involves extensive litigation and policy work related to immigration detention and prisoners’ rights.

You will report to the Deputy Project Director for Immigration Detention and contribute

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Demonstrated litigation experience.
• Admission to practice (based on office assignment).
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Litigate in federal and state courts and conduct appellate work.
• Carry a substantial caseload and coordinate with local counsel.
• Perform legal research and write memoranda and briefs.
• Analyze legislation for potential litigation and engage in discovery.
