Job summary

Macomb County Public Defender’s Office seeks a Staff Attorney II to manage a caseload of felony and misdemeanor cases from start to trial. You will prepare motions, conduct pre-trials, and engage in investigations, with frequent court appearances and collaboration with clients, prosecutors, and experts.

The role requires a Juris Doctorate, Michigan bar admission, and at least three years of criminal law experience, preferably in a public defender setting.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
• Three years of criminal law experience.
• Licensed to practice by the State Bar of Michigan (Class B or C eligibility).
• Preferred experience in a public defender’s office is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients in felony and misdemeanor cases through trial.
• Prepare court documents, motions, briefs, and sentencing memoranda.
• Conduct pre-trials, investigations, and witness interviews.
• Perform electronic legal research and manage case files.
• Assist with MIDC reporting, budgets, and attorney rostering.
