Job summary

Legal Aid Chicago seeks a full-time Staff Attorney for the Medical-Legal Partnerships (MLP) Group. The role focuses on public benefits advocacy, working with hospitals to address social determinants affecting patient health and equity.

You will maintain caseloads, counsel clients, and collaborate with health partners and other practice groups to deliver holistic services, including some on-site hospital work and system-wide advocacy.

Qualifications

• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Trauma-informed client counseling skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary and team-based settings.
• Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and tech learning ability.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a caseload of client matters with emphasis on public benefits.
• Interview and counsel clients on a wide range of legal issues; provide advice on-site at hospitals or health clinics.
• Represent clients before administrative agencies and in court-based matters when needed.
• Develop expertise in health-harming legal needs affecting MLP populations.
• Collaborate with Legal Aid Chicago colleagues across practice groups.
