Disability Rights New York (DRNY) seeks a Staff Attorney to provide legal services and engage in individual and systemic representation for people with disabilities. You will report to the PADD program and may work remotely or in an office within New York State.

The role requires NY Bar admission or eligibility to waive, 2–5 years of litigation experience, and a commitment to public interest law. Travel within and outside New York may be necessary.

Qualifications

• Must be a member in good standing of the New York State Bar or eligible to waive in from another jurisdiction, or be eligible to become a member within a reasonable time after beginning employment, and maintain such standing throughout employment with DRNY.
• 2–5 years of litigation experience.
• Demonstrated interest and commitment to public interest law.
• Ability to work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Multilingual skills preferred.
• Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals; and
• Work and reside in New York State consistent with DRNY's policies.

Responsabilités

• Provide legal services and engage in individual and systemic representation and litigation for people with disabilities.
• Investigate allegations of abuse and neglect and draft investigative reports.
• Monitor service providers for abuse, neglect, and compliance with laws and draft monitoring reports.
• Analyze cases for systemic issues and formulate strategies with program leadership.
• Lead and participate in projects, task forces, and training campaigns.
• Maintain accurate, confidential files and records, including time and client documentation.
