Job summary

Northwestern Legal Services (NWLS) seeks Staff Attorneys to provide civil legal aid in the Erie office. On-site roles report to the Managing Attorney and Executive Director, handling client representation, advisory work, and litigation across domestic violence, family law, housing, benefits, and poverty law.

The role emphasizes ethics, confidentiality, time-record keeping, and community education; travel may be required; strong PA bar eligibility required.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Be a PA Bar member, OR eligible to practice law in PA.
• Able to analyze and apply legal principles to practical problems and communicate clearly to clients.
• Understand the needs of the low-income community and relate to diverse groups.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a client-centered approach; ethical conduct and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality civil legal advice, individual or group representation, and litigation, including appellate practice.
• Identify and navigate challenges to judicial practices and regulations.
• Educate and maintain educational materials for the low-income client community.
• Represent clients while maintaining ethical standards and compliance with PA bar requirements.
• Travel to cover cases across NWLS service area and related professional development.
