Job summary

Legal Services of Northern California is seeking an attorney to work under the supervision of the managing attorney and participate in all aspects of advocacy and litigation, including client interviews, factual investigation, legal research, discovery, preparation of documents, negotiations, trials, and appellate work in state and federal courts; appearance at administrative hearings, and providing legal information to individuals and eligible community groups.

Qualifications

• J.D. and California Bar admission or eligibility to take the next bar exam.
• 1–3 years of experience working with low-income people preferred.
• Experience with community outreach preferred; bilingual in a language spoken by client communities preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Participate in client interviews, factual investigation, legal research, discovery, and drafting legal documents.
• Engage in negotiations, trials, and appellate work in state and federal courts; appear at administrative hearings.
• Provide legal advice to individual clients and general legal information to eligible community groups and the public.
• Frequent travel within the office's service area.
