Salary Range
$218,000.00 - $257,000.00

Role Overview
As a Staff Applied Scientist, you will develop innovative solutions for Recommendations, focusing on deep learning in areas like NLP, Representation Learning, Clustering, Optimization, Graph Learning, and Reinforcement Learning to enhance the Etsy buyer/seller experience. This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager, with eligibility for equity, bonuses, and comprehensive benefits.

Location and Work Mode
Candidates based in the US, especially near Etsy’s Brooklyn or San Francisco offices, are preferred. In-office presence once or twice weekly may be required. Etsy offers flexible work modes to suit team needs and safety policies.

Team and Responsibilities
The Retrieval team focuses on selecting relevant item candidates for personalized experiences using machine learning. Your tasks include developing models, staying current with research, deploying ML solutions, mentoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Ideal Candidate Qualities
Proven project management skills, experience applying deep learning to real-world problems, extensive knowledge across the ML stack, leadership in unconstrained problems, large-scale data manipulation, strong coding skills (Python, Scala, Java), and excellent communication skills. Requirements include 5+ years in applied machine learning, an advanced degree (preferred), and experience with cloud platforms, representation learning, ANN search, and frameworks like Spark, Airflow, Kubeflow, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
