Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a senior Android framework developer to design and implement core components of the Android framework for the IVI platform. You will enhance performance, reliability, and security while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive technical solutions.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in Android development, strong Java/Kotlin/C/C++ skills, and deep knowledge of Android OS internals and Binder IPC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8+ years of software development experience, particularly in Android development and AOSP-based platforms.
• Strong expertise in Java, Kotlin, and C/C++; Rust is a plus.
• Deep understanding of Android OS internals, lifecycle management, services, and IPC (Binder).
• Experience in developing hardware abstraction layers (HAL) and using AIDL for IPC.
• Proficient with Agile practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to analyze and optimize system performance with regard to UX.

You’ll have

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• 8+ years of software development experience, particularly in Android development and AOSP-based platforms.
• Strong expertise in Java, Kotlin, and C/C++; familiarity with Rust is a plus.
• Deep understanding of Android OS internals, lifecycle management, services, and IPC methods (Binder).
• Proven experience in developing and integrating hardware abstraction layers (HAL) to facilitate communication between hardware and software.
• Familiarity with Android Interface Definition Language (AIDL) for defining and managing IPC mechanisms.
• Proficient in using modern development tools and methodologies, including Agile practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven ability to analyze and optimize system performance while considering user experience.

This position is a leadership level 6 and ranges from $150,200-$283,500.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
