Role Summary

The Core Data team at Rivian Volkswagen Group Technologies (joint venture between Rivian and VW Group) is dedicated to building and scaling a best-in-class data platform that empowers the entire organization to make data-driven decisions. As a Senior Data Engineer/Analytics Engineer, you will design and implement scalable ELT pipelines, develop SQL and Python-based transformation logic, and ensure our data infrastructure supports seamless interaction with data across the company. In this role, you'll set the standard for data engineering best practices while directly contributing to high-impact projects and enabling teams to leverage data effortlessly. The company is experiencing significant growth, and this role will focus on selecting and building patterns that enable us to scale efficiently while maintaining high standards of data quality and accessibility.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable ELT pipelines and analytics workflows that transform raw data into actionable insights.
• Develop and optimize SQL and Python-based transformation code to process and curate data for analytics and reporting.
• Serve as a mentor and thought leader for the organization's data engineering community by providing guidance, templated code, best practices, and comprehensive user documentation.
• Manage and operate the infrastructure for an efficient, incident-free dbt-core operations across multiple domain teams.
• Monitor and improve the performance and reliability of data pipelines, platform and infrastructure.
• Architect data models and schemas that enable self-service analytics and ensure data accuracy and consistency.
• Champion data quality through validation processes, monitoring frameworks, and automated testing.
• Partner with platform engineers to integrate new tools, technologies, and frameworks into the data ecosystem.
• Streamline tools and processes, mature existing patterns, and establish new patterns as needed across ingestion, governance and analytics to allow the organization to scale gracefully
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Over 5 years of proven experience in senior or staff positions in data engineering and analytics engineering.
  
  

Must Have Skills

• Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential to excel in this role, as our team partners with and supports colleagues across the business with varying levels of technical expertise.
• Advanced expertise in Python, Spark, dbt and SQL for data transformation and pipeline development and other custom solutions
• Extensive experience with modern cloud data platforms, including Databricks (preferred), Snowflake, and Google BigQuery.
• Expertise in Infrastructure as Code tools, Terraform highly preferred.
• Solid understanding of data modeling principles and schema design for analytics.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD workflows for data engineering projects.
• Proficiency in building and optimizing scalable data pipelines on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for creating efficient, maintainable, and scalable data systems.
  
  

Nice To Have Skills

• Experience with any data quality, data security and monitoring initiatives.
• Experience with orchestration tools like Airflow or similar.
• Experience with a modern data ingestion tool like Fivetran.
• Experience with implementing a large scale data governance framework.
  
  

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $132,100 - $165,100 USD

Actual Compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law.
