The Team

Our Marketplace Analytics team is a new team that coordinates supply, demand, and pricing in Upstart’s marketplace. We aim to optimize this marketplace through rigorous analysis, experimentation, and modeling to understand market dynamics and inform strategic decisions.

As a Staff Analyst, you will shape our pricing strategy by partnering with Engineering & Product Management to optimize borrower pricing and ensure marketplace health. This role requires strong technical skills for designing and interpreting experiments, combined with sharp business acumen and systems thinking.

Position Location: Remote, USA, San Mateo, CA, Columbus, OH

Travel Requirements: Mostly remote work, with occasional in-person collaboration (once or twice per quarter).

Responsibilities include:

1. Design, execute, and analyze pricing experiments (A/B tests).
2. Develop models to assess pricing strategies’ impact on demand, supply, revenue, and marketplace balance.
3. Analyze market trends and competitor pricing for opportunities.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and monitor pricing initiatives.
5. Translate analytical findings into strategic insights.
6. Model interactions of pricing with risk, underwriting, and funding mechanisms.
7. Contribute to data infrastructure for pricing analysis.

Minimum qualifications:

• 8+ years in analytics, data science, or related field.
• Experience in designing and analyzing experiments.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python/R.
• Experience with BI tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau).
• Degree in a quantitative field.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and systems thinking skills.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in pricing analytics, revenue management, or marketplace optimization.
• Background in fintech, lending, or two-sided marketplaces.
• Experience with demand forecasting and market simulation models.
• Knowledge of statistical methods and causal inference.
• Ability to influence strategic decisions with data insights.
